With the ever increasing need to ensure proper research practice in orthopaedic surgery, and to communicate research results effectively, there will be OTC Clinical Research Courses given by the program chair and invited faculty at national and regional levels.


The Principles and Practice of Clinical Research

The research course is entitled, “The Principles and Practice of Clinical Research” emphasizes design, analysis and participation within orthopaedic trauma research. There will be OTC Clinical Research Courses given by the program chair and invited faculty at national and regional levels.

The aim of the course is to transmit the basic skills for conducting quality clinical research on an international scale, and to provide the essential background to understand the “language of research”. The target group of participants is surgeons leading a clinical research study or participating as a site investigator.

The course syllabus focuses on:

  • ♦ Principles of Clinical Research
  • Designing a randomized trial
  • Participating in multi-center Clinical Research
  • Research proposals: good and bad examples
  • Critical evaluation of a published paper
  • Basic approaches to statistical analysis

Courses Syllabus :

All of these courses are based upon the generic program used for the earlier courses in Amsterdam and Toronto. The authoritative textbook underlying the lectures and practical breakout sessions is entitled « Clinical Research for Surgeons ». The co-editors are Mohit Bhandari and Anders Joensson.
